Infant To Kindergarten Swim Levels – Ages 6 months to 6 years

Class Description:
For ages 18 months – 2 years old with their parent or caregiver.

Through songs, fun and instructional games, students learn to be comfortable in the water & learn basic water skills. *Adult must accompany baby in the water*

Angelfish (3-5 Years Old) Beginners, very limited experience in the water

  • Class Description:
Class Description:
For ages 3-5 years old. This class is for children who have never swam or have very little experience with swimming.

Class goal: Water adjustment; learn basic swimming skills (kicking, arms movement; develop coordination; blow bubbles; submerge face or head under water).

Angelfish With Caregiver (3-5 Years Old)

  • Class Description:
Class Description:
For ages 3-5 years old with their parent or caregiver.

Class goal: Water adjustment, learn basic swimming skills. Children go in the water with a flotation belt and the grown ups are in the water to help the children while being led by the teacher to learn how to kick, blow bubbles, water adjustment, float and swim. This class is for children who are not quite ready to go in the water without their caregiver.

Butterflyfish (3-6 Years) can blow bubbles and swim with a float

  • Class Description:
Class Description:
Ages 3-5 years old. For children who can swim independently with their face in the water (while blowing bubbles) with a floatation device.

Class goal: swim the width of the pool unassisted; swim under water; learn basic swimming skills for front crawl; perfect rhythmic breathing.

Catfish (4-6 years) can swim independently half the width of pool

  • Class Description:
Class Description:
For ages 4-6 years old. This class is for children who can swim with their face in the water with basic freestyle comfortably without a float.

Class Goal: swim independently; rhythmic breathing; freestyle arms; and kicking techniques.

Seahorse (5-7 years) Must be able to swim half of the length of the pool with rhythmic breathing.

  • Class Description:
Class Description:
For children 5 to 7 years old who can already swim half of the length of the pool comfortably with rhythmic breathing.

Class goal: develop accurate freestyle technique; build general endurance; and introduction to backstroke technique.

Goldfish (6 – 14) Pre-Barracuda class – For non-swimmers who are fearful of the water

Class Description:
For ages 6-12 (Pre-Barracuda class) non-swimmers who are fearful of the water.

Class goal: to help swimmers overcome the fear of water.

Class Description:
For non-swimmers comfortable in the water or have very little experience with swimming.

Class goal: learn rhythmic breathing; learn front crawl technique; develop stroke coordination; swim under water.

* Swimmers with fear of water need to register for Goldfish class.

Blue Marlin Can swim half length independently

  • Class Description:
Class Description:
For beginner swimmers who can swim half a pool length. Class goal: perfect the front crawl technique, learn rotary breathing, build basic endurance, swim in deep water, and swim one length of the pool front crawl.

For swimmers who can swim one length of the pool front crawl minimal coordination.

Class goal: perfect front crawl techniques, build endurance, perfect front crawl starts and turns, swim one length of the pool with proper front crawl technique, learn to swim backstroke and tread water.

Swordfish Can swim length freestyle and backstroke properly

  • Class Description:
Class Description:
For advanced swimmers that swim 1 to 2 lengths of the pool front crawl with proper technique.

Class goal: develop endurance, speed, strength, perfect front crawl, backstroke technique with starts and turns, swim 2 lengths of the pool front crawl and backstroke with proper technique; breaststroke technique; Fly technique.

Dolphin 1

Class Description:
Advance level.

Swimmers enrolled in our swordfish classes for more than one session are strongly encouraged to join this class! Dolphin level I (also Swordfish) is focused on working on 4 strokes while level II (available at Erasmus HS only) is on building endurance. Swimmers should have prior knowledge of all four strokes and be able to swim 25 yards of each stroke, except butterfly. 45 Minute Class

Advance level (Pre – Swim Team Level)

Swimmers enrolled in our swordfish classes for more than one session are strongly encouraged to join this class! Dolphin level I (also Swordfish) is focused on working on 4 strokes while level II (available at Erasmus HS only) is on building endurance. Swimmers should have prior knowledge of all four strokes and be able to swim 25 yards of each stroke, except butterfly. Classes are 90 minutes long! (45 minutes longer than Dolphin 1)

Class Description:
For non-swimmers, swimmers with fear of the water.

Class goal: water adjustment, learn to be comfortable with the water environment, learn basic skills of front crawl, submerge head under the water, learn rhythmic and rotary breathing, and swim the width of the pool.

For advanced beginners.

Class goal: perfect front crawl technique, swim under water, learn and perfect backstroke technique with starts and turns, swim 1 length of the pool front crawl, swim half a pool length backstroke.
