WHAT SPORTS DO YOU OFFER?

Each day children practice 3 sports plus instructional swim classes on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Sports each day may be a combination of basketball, soccer and baseball (tee-ball or kickball where appropriate), or volleyball for the older children or one sport on a given day.

WHAT ARE THE HOURS OF SPORTS CAMP?

Our summer sports camp is from 9:00am to 4:00 pm with extended hours available. Early drop-off starts at 8:30am and our late stay is from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Early bird and late stay are $80 a week for both. Early bird is $30 and $50 for late stay.

*please be advised of our late fee. *$10 for every ten minutes the adult/guardian is late.

HOW DO YOUR SESSIONS WORK?

Each week is considered a session. We strongly recommend parents to sign up their campers for two weeks to receive the full Camp Olympia experience.

WHAT IS A TYPICAL DAILY SCHEDULE LIKE?

At 9am we will meet either by the schoolyard or the side doors and go into the cafeteria. We then divide up into our age groups, go to the gym, or go to the pool. An example of a swimming day would include 1 hour of soccer, 1 hour of swimming and 45 minutes of basketball. Lunch will be from 12pm – 1pm; during lunch (after the children are done eating) they can choose from playing board games, cards, or engaging in arts and crafts . After lunch, we get ready for our next activity (can be outside or indoors). On non-swimming days we extend the time for each am sport by 30 minutes.

WHAT IF IT RAINS OR IT’S TOO HOT?

If it is raining or too hot we stay at the school and do our sports indoors. Outside activities will be based on providing the best conditions for your child.

WHAT ARE THE AGE GROUPS? (CO STANDS FOR CAMP OLYMPIA)

  • CO1 – 4-5 year olds
  • CO2 -6-7 year olds
  • CO3 – 8-10 year olds (and returning c04’s ages 11-15)
WHAT ARE THE STAFF TO CAMPER RATIOS?

Ratios are 1:5 for CO1, 1:7 for CO2 and 1:10 for CO3 and CO4.

HOW OLD ARE THE COUNSELORS AND WHAT EXPERIENCE DO THEY HAVE?

All of our counselors are college students who are majoring in education or related fields. They have experience working with children and in competing in the sports we offer. Head coaches have extensive experience teaching their sport. The directors of the program are also at camp all summer.

HOW DO YOU ACCOMMODATE CHILDREN WHO ALREADY HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF A SPORT AND OTHERS DO NOT?

At Camp Olympia, because all children do all 3 sports a day PLUS swimming, each child has an opportunity to be at a different ability level than their peers throughout the day. We help coaches create plans that allow for grouping of children within their age group by abilities and simple ways to challenge the experienced athlete with whatever skill you are teaching. Sometimes it only requires giving a child 3 more cones to “dribble” around whether it is basketball or soccer, maybe 1 child gets a ball pitched while another hits off a tee. Children occasionally may be put in a helper position which helps them understand the skill better by explaining it and boosts self esteem. These are just some of our techniques.

HOW COMPETITIVE IS YOUR CAMP?

Since there is a competitive component to being a part of a team sport, we teach children how to be good sportsmen just like all the other skills of the game. We teach post game hand shaking, we have a “No Put Down” rule, meaning you can cheer on your own teammates and celebrate points and goats but never are allowed to put down your own or other teammates. Players do not put down coaches and of course, coaches do not put down children. We teach language like, “Good try”, “Nice hit”, “Almost” and “Way to go”…We have coaches pick teams or pair people up.

WHAT KIND OF LUNCH IS INCLUDED?

School lunch will be provided. Campers are asked to bring in snacks for their day. Please check out our 2017 school food lunch menu here.

WHAT IS A THEME DAY?

Theme days are on Fridays (except the last one).  These are fun days when children’s personalities get a chance to shine even more.  Often times they include an all camp celebration in the afternoon.

The list of themes days are as follows:

  • July 14th-  Team Spirit
  • July 21st – Birthday Day
  • July 28th- Superhero Day
  • August 4th – Beach Day(Bring a beach towel and any other beach-like items)
  • August 11th –  Make your own sundae day  (bring in a favorite topping – pretzels, candy, gummies, m&m’s cookies, sprinkles) please remember All Sports for All People of Camp Olympia tries to have as few nut products as possible.
  • August 17th–End of Year Party (you don’t have to wear your camp shirt on this day, but have it with you in case we go to the park)

Note the last theme day is on a Thursday.

WHAT IF I SIGN UP FOR A SESSION AND I WANT TO STAY LONGER?

If we have space available you may stay another session.

WHAT IF MY CHILD DOES NOT LIKE CAMP?

We ask parents to communicate with us. May problems are fixable if we know about them (sooner the better), for example, children who complain they are too tired have options to rest. Please speak to the camp director if your child is unhappy. If, after given the chance to resolve the problem, your child still does not like camp, we will reimburse the remainder of your week(s). You must call or text the camp director as soon as you become aware of a concern.

WILL MY CHILD LOSE WEIGHT?

Children who come to Camp Olympia do get in their own shape for whatever that may mean for each child. Some children lose weight, others can walk further without needing a break, others develop muscles and most increase their endurance. This happens naturally from doing sports 5 days a week. The more weeks a child attends Camp Olympia, the stronger they become.

CAN I SEE MY CHILD DURING CAMP?

Parents may visit their child anytime they want.

WHAT IF I DO NOT HAVE MY CHILD’S MEDICAL FORM COMPLETED BEFORE CAMP STARTS?

Unfortunately NO campers will be allowed to camp without a signed, completed medical form. This is for all campers’ safety and the law. PLEASE do not bring your child and then tell us you are going to get it. It is distressing for your child and puts us in an awkward situation. The Board of Health prohibits us from accepting a child without the proper paperwork.

WHEN IS PAYMENT DUE?

We require a $50 deposit per session. Deposit for you session(s) is due NO LATER than May 1,2017.

The balance for camp is due by June 1, 2017.

IS THERE A SIBLING DISCOUNT?

Yes, the 3rd+ children is 25% off.

WHAT IF MY CHILD WANTS TO BE IN A GROUP WITH HIS OR HER FRIENDS?

Camp Olympia staff will be happy to put children together who want to be together (and vice versa). Please notify the camp office by phone or send an email with your child’s first and last name and then the friend’s first and last name.

MY CHILD’S BIRTHDAY IS IN THE SUMMER, CAN HE/SHE HAVE A PARTY AT CAMP?

Yes, if a parent would like to send in a little something for their child’s birthday, we would be happy to provide balloons and play games with the child’s group or whole camp, whichever is most appropriate.
